The Africa Disability Alliance (ADA) in collaboration with the University of Pretoria Center for the Study of Governance Innovation (GovInn) is organising a Southern Africa Regional Disability and Statistics workshop. The workshop will take place on the 21st – 22nd July 2015 at the Center for the Study of Governance Innovation (GovInn), University of Pretoria. The main objectives for the workshop are:
- To explore ways on how research and statistics in the SADC region can be utilized to the best interest of people with disabilities especially in achieving equal employment opportunities for persons with disabilities (ILO).
- To provide a platform and create linkages for networking among countries and in the region.
- To provide a basis for the establishment of a regional system for the collection, analysis, dissemination and harmonization of data on persons with disabilities.
- To strengthen collaboration between disabled people’s organisations (DPOS) and bureau of statistics to ensure that data and statistics is accessible to policy makers, persons with disabilities and others
The workshop is organised under the Communities of Practice in Disability Advocacy for Mainstreaming (COPDAM) project which is funded by the European Union (EU) and Christoffel Blindernmission (CBM).
